The Fine Art of Fetish

Fetish photography came from visual explorations of how people receive gratification from physical objects and situations. Imagery of bondage, latex, leather and S&M become the vogue in the more outlandish art circles and today distinctively stylized representations of fetishistic and sadomasochistic sexuality are commonplace in popular culture. Because of it’s often socially provocative and sexualised nature it quickly became a favourite genre of the fashion photography industry. The imagery of Helmut Newton with highly stylized erotic scenes, often with subtexts of sado-masochistic and fetishistic acts propelled him into photography celebrity.
